Passionate discussion on key issues dominate Métis Nation-Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly – 20 CKRM

Sunday marked the third and final day of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan’s Legislative Assembly.

Members and Métis peoples gathered in Regina, where they discussed a wide number of issues.

One of them included land claims.

“Around Section 35,” said President Glen McCallum. “We have alot of work that we have done on land use studies, sustenance use studies and harvesting.”

Section 35 of the Constitution Act of 1982 pertains to Aboriginal peoples and the recognition and affirmation of their rights. It is stated in Section 35 (2) that the “Aboriginal peoples of Canada” includes the Indian, Inuit and Métis peoples.
