Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs hopes new government will handle issues differently – iNews 880

The results of absentee ballots are expected to roll in Tuesday and the head of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs is hoping that the party that forms government will deal with First Nations issues differently moving forward.

“Quite frankly there wasn’t a lot to be pleased about.”

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip says the Liberal government has failed to engage with First Nations over the years when it comes to Aboriginal land titles and territories.

“The government clung to the archaic notion that our Aboriginal title was only attached to small spots and not territorial wide.”
